In 2025, South Dakota Caring for Canines was approached by Simo to help get Patch from Romania to Seattle, USA, her home.
Simo is originally from Romania; she is a generous supporter, helping many shelters, and aware of the heartbreak, abuse, and conditions these poor animals endure.
One poor animal in particular caught her eye and heart. When Simo found Patch, he was stuck in Resita shelter, a public shelter that could not provide the care he needed.
Poor Patch suffered immensely. He had open wounds and had given up on life.
With the help of Corina from Solace for Strays, a shelter that we helped build, Patch was transferred out of Resita into Solace. There he was nurtured and looked after, but his wounds would not heal.
Ultimately, to get Patch fit for travel and healthy enough, we had to come up with another plan.
With our friends and partners from Streunerfreunde, we were able to place Patch in a temporary foster home with Cami. She took amazing care of him and his wounds. After his overall health improved, we organized his journey to his new home.
Pandora Transport brought Patch to Germany, where he was cared for by Tina for a few days. Tina did an amazing job socializing him, and then dropped him off with our international air travel company, PetsbyPro.
The Lufthansa pet lounge took it from there, and our Patch made it from Frankfurt, Germany to Seattle, Washington. Now Patch is living his best life. He has joined a family of 3 along with their dog Coco, who is now his best friend.
This is a true story of how SDCFC works and demonstrates how it takes a village to organize such an adoption. But the end result is heartwarming and shows that for a dog like Patch, anything is possible.
